We went to the same school. Bought pot off the same guy. He made beats, I kinda sorta rapped, [we] started recording on garage band”.

Gabe and Mike make up the band and art duo UZI. The two recently made the transition from Cincinnati to L.A after realizing that stepping out of their comfort zone could be their jumping off point. Aside from the obvious frills (getting paid, flashy duds, etc…)when it really comes down to it, the group is determined to paint their perspective through their music and videos.

Their music is the perfect mix of light pop stylings and trill hoodness. Its the get money attidude of trap music that UZI connects too. Back in Cincinnati UZI started making video portraits/cinematic status updates. Their video work collectively is a blend between reality tv and twitter updates. You get the visual stimulation of an episode in little snippets no longer than 30 some odd seconds long. The guys seem to have a natural eye, perfectly framing and capturing the real personalities of their subjects.

“We had that idea one day, and then started shooting them like everyday for like three months straight”.

It’s about to be extremely interesting to see where UZI ends up in the next few years. Its a make it or break it type of world but both Gabe and Mike have one helluva make it or make it type of drive.

Ya’ll know how hard it is to mix patterns, prints and textures, right? This guy is thee perfect example of how to mix and match without being the least bit absurd. Even though hes mixing quite a bit there is a thread of consistency in the natural tones in the sweater, backpack and sandals. I dare you to try this at home.

So, I’m an advocate of wearing all black everything or all of whatever other color but heres the thing. While monochrome looks make a damn good statement, I’m even more a fan of someone going all out in one color down to everything but their shoes. The contrast between the apparel and the footwear creates a pretty dramatic effect. Above model James Smith pulls it off by pairing black apparel with white boots. I’m just saying guys, I’m feeling it.
